There is no doubt that photos are one of the most important things in our iPhone. They are precious memories and help us to recall the important moments. When you get a new iPhone XS or XR and want to transfer all the photos to your new iPhone, or if you want to share the photos with your friend on iPhone, you will need to find a way to transfer photos from iPhone to iPhone. In this post, we will share 4 ways to get it done.

Method 1. Transfer Photos from iPhone to iPhone with AirDrop

AirDrop is really a helpful function on iPhone to send or receive photos from people nearby. Before transferring photos via AirDrop, there are some tips to be noted:

  • Make sure that both the sending and receiving iPhones are connected with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth turned on and Personal Hotspot turned off.
  • Sender and receiver should be nearby and within Wi-Fi and Bluetooth range.
  • Both iPhones should be iPhone 5 or later running at least iOS 7.

How to transfer photos from iPhone to iPhone via AirDrop:

  1. Open the Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, tap "AirDrop" and select "Contacts Only" (if the receiver is a contact) or "Everyone" if not from the options.
  2. Go to Photos App, find the photo you want to share, and tap the Share icon at the bottom left.
  3. Nearby devices that can receive the photos with AirDrop will appear. Select the receiver you want to share the photo with.
  4. There will be a pop-up of the photo on the receiver's iPhone with two choices, to Accept or Decline. Tap Accept and the photo will be saved in the receiver's iPhone.

It is simple and quick to send a couple of photos via AirDrop. But if you want to transfer all the photos in one iPhone from another, you will need to try below methods.

Method 2. Transfer Photos from iPhone to iPhone with iTunes

iTunes is a helpful photo transfer tool through backup and restore. But When you try to use iTunes to transfer photos from old iPhone to new iPhone, you can only transfer the photos in Camera Roll. As to the photos in iCloud Photos Library, photos synced from computer and shared photos, jump to method 3 and method 4. Now follow the details below to transfer pictures from iPhone to iPhone with iTunes.

  1. Connect your iPhone to the computer and transfer photos on your old iPhone to the computer. After the transfer is finished, disconnect your old iPhone.
  2. Plug your new iPhone to the computer, launch iTunes with the latest version.
  3. Click the device button in the upper left corner of iTunes, tap Photos.
  4. Select Sync Photos and choose an application or folder, then click Apply.

Method 3. Transfer Photos from iPhone to iPhone with iCloud

iCloud is a great service that can transfer all the pictures in your iPhone to another iOS device. But you only get 5GB of storage for free. So if you have a lot of photos, you may need to buy more storage. And note below tips before you use iCloud to transfer your photos:

  • The two iPhones need to be iOS 8.3 or above.
  • Both devices should be signed in with the same Apple ID.
  • Make sure there is enough iCloud storage space.

After confirming above issues, you can start to transfer photos from iPhone to iPhone with iCloud:

  1. Go to Settings > your iCloud account > iCloud > Photos > toggle on iCloud Photo Library.
  2. If it's already on, all of the photos you've taken will already be uploaded to the cloud. If you didn't have it on already, it will take some time for all of your photos to transfer to the cloud.
  3. After the photos are uploaded to the iCloud Photo Library, log in with the same Apple ID on your new iPhone and repeat step one to toggle on iCloud Photo Library.
  4. Select either Optimize iPhone Storage or Download and Keep Originals.
  5. Wait until the download finishes, then you can go to the Photos App on your new iPhone to view all the photos.

In Conclusion

In this post, we shared 4 methods above to transfer photos from iPhone to iPhone. AirDrop requires both two iOS devices have access to AirDrop app and running iOS 7 on iPhone 5 or later. iTunes involves transferring pictures to your computer from one iPhone and then syncing those pictures to the other device. The process seems to be a little bit tedious. iCloud Photo Library requires user to share a same Apple ID on both iPhones and with limited space. So Fonegeek Phone Transfer is the best choice. It can also transfer data from Android to Android, or between iPhone and Android phone.
